PASA's primary programme teaches life skills to Grade 6 and 7 learners, generally aged 12 and older — the stage at which young people are most vulnerable to peer pressure. Because sustainability is a core aim, PASA returns to schools annually so each new group receives consistent prevention education.
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of an appropriate PASA programme, learners should be better able to:
- Explain how peer pressure can affect decision-making.
- Identify personal values and positive future goals.
- Describe key risks associated with harmful substance use.
- Recognise how choices may affect health, family and education.
- Identify trusted adults or appropriate support channels.
- Demonstrate basic refusal and help-seeking skills.
These are intended learning outcomes, not guaranteed behavioural results.
Programme topics
Content covering age-appropriate reproductive-health consequences (pregnancy, adoption, abortion) is included only where approved by the school, is reviewed by qualified health or social-service professionals, and uses factual, non-stigmatising language that respects learners' diverse backgrounds.

Prevention works best when it returns every year
PASA encourages participating schools to arrange the programme annually. This gives each new Grade 6 or 7 group consistent prevention education and lets the school strengthen the programme over time.
